  7.     A federal-appeals-court judge who was an also-ran on
  8. George Bush's list of potential Supreme Court nominees, EDITH
  9. JONES, could be in line for another high post. Bush may tap the
  10. ultraconservative Texas jurist to succeed Dick Thornburgh as
  11. Attorney General. The main stumbling block is that Jones has no
  12. trial and administrative experience. One solution would be to
  13. persuade Thornburgh's highly regarded deputy, William Barr, to
  14. stay on under Jones. But that may be a hard sell because many
  15. at Justice consider Barr more than qualified for the top job.
